Cooley News Round Up

Money Quote: "[B]oth sides agreed to take a number of exploratory steps to gauge the impact an alliance would have on each institution."

How about exploring the impact on your prospective students too as part of your exploratory steps?

Money Quote: “'We expect to improve the bottom line student recruitment. It’s a good time to go to law school,' [James] Robb, [Cooley’s associate dean for external affairs and senior counselsaid. Enrollments are down, graduating classes are much smaller and with the increasing demand for lawyers — and anticipated improvement of the economy — job prospects for students graduating in 2016 or 2017 will be improved, according to Robb. Both Robb and [WMU President John] Dunn also discussed their hopes to develop a '3+3 education program,' which would allow students to get their undergraduate degree in three years and then get their law degree in three years, saving students a year of extra study, tuition and living costs."

"Cooley Law School explores affiliation Western Michigan University,"  by Matthew Miller (Detroit Free Press reprint from Lansing Journal)

Money Quote: "Now, Cooley is looking at a name change, exploring a formal affiliation with Western Michigan University that would rechristen the five-campus private law school the Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School."

All five campuses are going to have "Western Michigan University" in front of "Thomas M. Cooley Law School"? Even the campus at Oakland University?

The Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled unanimously in favor of a former law student who used his blog to anonymously complain about Cooley Law School. Here is a copy of the opinion.

  1. What I can't believe is that Cooley ever referred to itself as the second best law school in the country. Wouldn't that be considered fraud, since they're using statements like that to induce students into enrolling? Someone should sue them. Oh wait... (Maybe that's why they don't provide employment data anymore. http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-law-schools/thomas-m.-cooley-law-school-03080)

My, oh my, what ever will the trial court do on remand? I'm guessing they're going to create from whole cloth some sort of public interest that could theoretically be served by outing the blogger. I hope not, but since Michigan circuit court judges are elected, not appointed, then I'm guessing they're going to side with industry, not the individual. Also, no lower court likes being 'moted by a higher court, so the trial court has an interest in maintaining its original opinion, even if it is ordered to use different criteria (or at least some criteria) to get there.

  2. I'm surprised that TTTThoma$ M Cooley did not partner with the "University" of Phoenix.

  3. The fact that Cooley still manages to survive and attract dummies into its JD program amazes me. And it makes me rather depressed about the future and our efforts. Do these tards not read anything before attending law school? Are there still so many stupid, deaf, blind, tarded people who just ignore everything written about Cooley being the biggest scam school out there?

Or is this merger a sign that Cooley is on the ropes? I hope so. I want nothing more than seeing that moribund dump finally drop dead.

  8. Uh, so there's going to be a Western Michigan Law in Western Florida?

Cooley is like the gift that keeps on giving. Whatever you think is absurd about law school's scammiest behavior, take it one notch down and you've got Cooley.

That hotel in Dubai markets itself as a 7-star hotel or whatever. Well, Cooley is in the 5th tier all by itself.

  9. Yesterday, while I was at work, my cousin stole my apple ipad and tested to see if it can survive a 40 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation.

My iPad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off
topic but I had to share it with someone!
