Briefer News Update : Charleston SOL to Enroll 1Ls for 2015...

"Ignore the fact that we took $25 million dollars out of the school.  Our graduates will be well-prepared to be the lawyers of the new, post-apocalyptic millennium."

...because pushing harder in the same direction always works.

What else is there to say here?  OTLSS welcomes your comments.  H/T to the Faculty Lounge.

  1. The only reasonable thing I can think of is that the owners are playing for time.

That, I think, is the only reason they are doing this. It's already known that they were banking on the sale to Infilaw to fund their retirements. The reasoning must be that they believe they can find a buyer if given more time. But I think the end-goal, whether the school remains for-profit or non-profit - or even continues to exist - is for an eventual cash-out.

    1. A blast from the past:

September 12, 2008: Lehman Bros. accepting money for investments.
September 15, 2008: Lehman Bros. files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

      This is how boomers operate.

    2. I would think that their attorneys must have advised them that they have to try to enroll a class next year. By announcing their intent not to enroll a class, they might be considered to be a contributing cause to CSOLs bankruptcy. I would just hope that there has been sufficient local negative publicity that 1Ls will avoid this place like a plague-ridden corpse.

    3. Yeah, I think we here at OTLSS tend to let a lot of things through, in that we would rather err on people being able to express themselves as opposed to not (compared to the typical 1st Amendment lovin' but only-so-long-as-I-agree-with-the-message-thin-skinned Dean/LawProf), but even that has its limits. Perhaps it's time to reign it in a bit.

  2. ...And the chance of a closed school discharge for the lucky few drops immensely.

  3. To paraphrase another poster: Boomers gonna Boom. They feel there is still some life left in the enterprise before they dispose of it and cash out. The fact that remaining 1L and 2L's (now 2L's and 3L's) will get screwed? Hey, such is life.. You are absolutely correct. This is the worst possible decision for everybody else. The CSD would be a fine way out. And now that's gone. Doesn't matter to the Owners.

  4. Only a brain dead person would bother to enroll in this toxic law school at this juncture.

    1. Is it better or worse than Indiana Tech at this point?

    2. Worse, IMO.

Indiana Tech hasn't actually gotten off the ground yet. This place, Charleston, umm.. was a going concern stripped of $25 million of profit. Just sucked right out. Then these clowns claim insolvency issues?

"Only Boomer Imperial ScamTroopers could be so prick-cise.."

The amount of financially dead Jawas (Lemmings) all over the place illustrates this.

  5. Young people - not "sophisticated consumers" by any means - who trust The System, trust the bull that has been force-fed to them about all education being worthwhile regardless of cost and that hard work, determination, and drive can overcome anything including trying to enter fields that are completely glutted, minimal or no family resources, non-existent connections, no prior knowledge of said industry, and no other competitive advantages relative to the local market and their peers. In short, trusting individuals with dreams who will be taken advantage of by unscrupulous people who don't care otherwise.

  6. This is the school that Ed built.

    This is the loot
That lay in the school that Ed built.

    This is the shark,
    That took the loot
That lay in the school that Ed built.

    This is the mark,
    That paid the shark,
    That took the loot
That lay in the school that Ed built.

    This is the blog,
    That worried the mark,
    That paid the shark,
    That took the loot
That lay in the school that Ed built.

This is the D.O.E. with the crumpled horn,
    That tossed the blog,
    That worried the mark,
    That paid the shark,
    That took the loot
That lay in the school that Ed built.

This is the Treasury all forlorn,
That lent to the D.O.E. with the crumpled horn,
    That tossed the blog,
    That worried the mark,
    That paid the shark,
    That took the loot
That lay in the school that Ed built.

This is the Bank all tattered and torn,
That funded the Treasury all forlorn,
That lent to the D.O.E. with the crumpled horn,
    That tossed the blog,
    That worried the mark,
    That paid the shark,
    That took the loot
That lay in the school that Ed built.

This is the Priestess all shaven and shorn,
That headed the Bank all tattered and torn,
That funded the Treasury all forlorn,
That lent to the D.O.E. with the crumpled horn,
    That tossed the blog,
    That worried the mark,
    That paid the shark,
    That took the loot
That lay in the school that Ed built.

This is the Bond that spiked in the morn,
That waked the Priestess all shaven and shorn,
That headed the Bank all tattered and torn,
That funded the Treasury all forlorn,
That lent to the D.O.E. with the crumpled horn,
    That tossed the blog,
    That worried the mark,
    That paid the shark,
    That took the loot
That lay in the school that Ed built.

This is the Youngster shouting the scorn,
That owed the Bond that spiked in the morn,
That waked the Priestess all shaven and shorn,
That headed the Bank all tattered and torn,
That funded the Treasury all forlorn,
That lent to the D.O.E. with the crumpled horn,
    That tossed the blog,
    That worried the mark,
    That paid the shark,
    That took the loot
That lay in the school that Ed built.

  7. Indeed, Charleston has ruined itself by threatening, scarcely three months before the beginning of the semester, to revoke all offers of admission. Only the greatest fool would apply next year.

  8. 6:36 PM, I completely agree with you. I think sometimes we forget (or at least I do) what it was like to be 22 or 23 years old. That's a critical part of the scam.

The best way to shut Charleston School of Law down would be to bleed them dry of students. Maybe now some of the 0Ls or current students will see the light and realize that something is amiss. I sincerely hope so.
